Our Statement on Josh Howie's Comments on GB News

wlqp

At West London Queer Project (WLQP), we stand firmly with the trans community. We were deeply troubled by Josh Howie’s comments on GB News, where he spread a harmful and completely false conspiracy theory linking LGBTQ+ inclusion to paedophilia. This kind of rhetoric has been used for far too long to justify discrimination and violence against our community, and we won’t stay silent in the face of it.

Trans people belong in our community, and we refuse to let anyone try to divide us. Every person deserves respect, safety and dignity, and we are committed to standing together against any attempts to exclude or marginalise trans people.

Misinformation like this isn’t just offensive—it has real consequences. It fuels fear, increases hate crimes and is used to justify laws that strip trans people of their rights. Public figures and media outlets have a responsibility to be better than this and to stop spreading dangerous, baseless accusations.

Josh Howie’s apology simply doesn’t go far enough. Instead of truly taking responsibility, he doubled down on harmful narratives and attempted to draw a line between LGB and trans people. This is unacceptable. A real apology means recognising the harm done and taking steps to correct it, not further entrenching division.

We call on GB News and Josh Howie to issue a full and proper retraction of his statement, one that doesn’t brush aside the damage caused. Media platforms must do better. Words have power, and spreading falsehoods puts lives at risk.

Misinformation about LGBTQ+ people, especially trans individuals, is one of leading causes of hostility and violence directed to our community. We ask journalists, media outlets and the wider public to engage with our community responsibly, choosing truth and dignity over fearmongering and division. WLQP will always work to educate, advocate and stand with our community against hate. We will always fight for a world where every LGBTQ+ person can live freely, safely and with dignity.
